Passed away peacefully at St Joseph’s home on Sunday April 17, 2016. Beloved and devoted husband of Rita, his wife of 66 years. Loving father of John and Fran Godin, George and Kathy Godin and Donna and Onno Rinzema. Most proud and loving nonno of Christie and Vince Vanderboor, Kerry and her fiancé Adam, Meaghan , Mark and Emily Godin, Tanya and Jay Vieira and Michael Rinzema. Cherished bisnonno to Livia Vanderboor and Niko Vieira. John was in his 97th year and born January 1st 1920 in Fanzolo, Italy. He served as a sergeant major in WW2 and then worked in Italy, Belgium and finally settled in Guelph where he worked for over 35 years in the construction industry. John lived for his family, renovating and building many homes for them throughout the years. He was a quiet, giving and most kind man who was content and at peace with God’s plan for him. Survived by his sister Alba (Carlo) Zuanetti in Italy, and sister in laws, Rita Godin and Maria Favero. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters in law, Bertolo, Gino (Lydia), Angelo (Carol) and by his sister, Maria (Guilio). Also predeceased by his brother and sisters in law Emilio and Maria Zavarise and Bruno Favero. Also missed by many nieces and nephews here in Canada and Italy, and his many friends and neighbours in Guelph. John will be lovingly remembered by the kind and compassionate Zavarise, Capovilla and Simmons families who were a great and comforting presence in his life. Friends are invited to join with the family at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. North on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A Family Vigil will take place in our chapel on Thursday at 8pm. Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Parish, 175 Emma St. this Friday, April 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with burial at Marymount Cemetery. The family wishes to thank everyone at St Joseph Health Centre and especially the nurses and PSWs who cared for John with compassion, love and utmost care throughout his stay at St Joe's, Guelph.
