Passed away peacefully at St Joseph's Health Centre, on Sunday, March 26th, 2017. Born to Guglielmo and Rosa Zavarise of Fanzolo, Italy in 1928. Beloved partner to husband John, throughout their 66 years of marriage. She came to Guelph in 1950 where she and John settled. She was a dedicated and loving mother to John and Fran Godin, George and Kathy Godin, and Donna and Onno Rinzema. Most proud and loving nonna of Christie and Vince Vanderboor, Kerry and Adam Wood, Meaghan Godin and her fiancé, Rob Kavanagh, Mark Godin and Emily Godin, Tanya and Jay Vieira and Michael Rinzema. Cherished bisnonna to Livia Vanderboor and Niko Vieira. Rita loved her family, was a superb cook and had a sharp wit that never missed a step. Survived by her sister Maria Favaro (Zavarise) in Italy and sisters-in-law Alba(Carlo) Zuanetti in Italy and Rita Godin of Guelph. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy, and her numerous friends and neighbours in Guelph. Rita particularly enjoyed her weekly coffee and muffins with her nieces Lauretta and Mina. Rita was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Guglielmina Zavarise, Vittorio Zavarise, Giovanni (Gigetta) Zavarise in Italy, Emilio and Maria Zavarise of Guelph. Also, predeceased by brothers and sisters- in-law Bertolo Godin, Angelo and Carol Godin, late of Guelph and Gino and Lydia Godin, and Bruno Favaro, late of Italy. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews in Canada and Italy, and her numerous friends and neighbours in Guelph. Rita particularly enjoyed her weekly coffee and muffins with her nieces Lauretta and Mina.

Friends are invited to join with the family at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Parish, 175 Emma St., Guelph on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with burial at Marymount Cemetery. The family wishes to thank everyone at St Joseph Health Centre and especially the nurses and PSWs who cared for and treated Rita like their own family. They went above and beyond tending to her every need, with long talks and good-natured teasing, and we will be forever grateful.
