Posted

Grant James MM

Of Guelph, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, December 19, 2021, in his 93rd year of life.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Liesa (nee Hoerlien), who together recently celebrated their 67th anniversary of marriage. Jim’s children Randall, Laura (Richard Loughlin), and Harry (Lynn Quach) will forever remember their father for the quiet, stoic strength that he brought to their home. Jim’s grandsons Matthew (Jessica DeNardis) and Cameron (Megan Hooper) will miss their loving Papa, fondly recalling his astute advice, often shared over a game of Rummy. Jim also adored his great-grandson Lincoln Loughlin (Matthew and Jessica).

Born in Guelph on December 5, 1928, Jim was the youngest son to Annie and Donald Grant. Jim is predeceased by his siblings Donald (Jean), Jack (May), Bruce (Doris), and Anna May (Ernie). Jim will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family as well as friends.

Jim’s full life brimmed with love for his cherished wife and family. Working hard to provide for his family, Jim worked at Rockwell Manufacturing for 44 years, until his retirement in 1988. Jim enjoyed filling his time with his many hobbies. A skilled woodworker, Jim was often building in his garage, which he organized top to bottom with countless tools put to good use over the years. The family remembers Jim’s excitement for his annual October hunting trips with his loved brothers. Matthew and Cameron will cherish their Papa’s robust currency collection; affectionately remembering him looking through the family’s spare change, often managing to find that special year on a coin he had been searching for. Jim loved the many years spent with his siblings, children and grandchildren at the family trailers in Meaford. For nearly 50 years, Jim and Liesa celebrated many of life’s special moments with their loved ones at their home away from home.

“Those we love never truly leave us. There are things that death cannot touch.” Jim’s calm kindness and many admirable qualities will live on in his family for generations. He will be missed by all - Stand Fast.

A private graveside service for the family will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Breslau, on December 23, 2021.  Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL 519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com.
