Dr. Dominic Catipay Gregorio, born June 14, 1977, left his physical body on Sunday, March 3, 2019 in Regina, SK. Beloved son, brother, uncle, teacher, and friend, Dominic’s spirit will forever transform the countless among us who love him fiercely and unconditionally for his humanity, kindness, and unwavering courage to be vulnerable and truthful.

A proud Filipino-Canadian, Dominic was born and raised in Guelph, Ontario, completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music at the University of Guelph, a triple major Master of Music Degree (Voice, Choral Conducting, Music History) at the Temple University in Philadelphia, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, earning the prestigious medal, The Order of Arete in 2012 for his brilliant work as a doctoral student.

Dominic’s calling as a professor and community leader channeled his passions in music and spirituality. As Director of Choral Activities and an Associate Professor in the Department of Music at the University of Regina, Dominic had a tremendous impact on the campus community and throughout the creative and cultural communities he so generously collaborated with, and was passionately committed to. His impact and influence as a mentor and choir director was inspirational, caring, and transformative. He possessed a vibrant, dynamic, passionate soul who defied labels, advocated for the rights of the LGBTQ and indigenous community, and was on a journey of reclaiming his own indigenous Filipino identity.

His loss leaves a profound void in the choral music world in North America, and he is also grieved by relatives and friends in Taiwan, India and the Philippines.

He is survived by his parents, José and Ella Gregorio, his siblings Joel, Irene and Jonas, brother-in-law Nicholas Stoup, and his adored nephew and niece Kali José and Lila Raquel Stoup.

Relatives and friends are invited to call at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph on Friday March 15, 2019 from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M.  A funeral service will be held at Dublin Street United Church on Saturday March 16, 2019 at 11:00 A.M  with a reception to follow in the Church Hall.
