November 5, 1981 - October 10, 2023

We are devastated to announce that our much-loved son and brother passed away suddenly as a result of a heart attack. He is survived by his partner Stephanie Innocent originally from Montreal, his parents Nancy (nèe Fantin) and Doug Grieve of Guelph, and his younger sister Lisa of Toronto. Beloved grandson of Maria Fantin and Karen Grieve, both of Guelph. He is predeceased by his Nonno Frank Fantin (2019) and Grandpa Donald Grieve (2008). Chris will be greatly missed by his many aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws both here in Canada as well as in the province of Treviso, Italy.

From an early age, Chris developed an enthusiasm for baseball and played in the Guelph Minor Baseball system until the age of 22. Chris also had a passion for music and played bass in the band Driven during his time at St. James High School.

Chris always had a love for food, which was fostered around the kitchen table while making lasagna as a young boy. Chris pursued this love further by graduating from Cambrian College’s Culinary Arts program and then in 2006, he moved out west. He started his career as a chef at the renowned Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and after several years, he moved to Calgary where he cooked in, and then managed, several different kitchens in its gastropub scene. He thrived on the hustle and bustle of the smaller work environments as well as the blaring music. Most recently, he was establishing himself in the Chef for Hire industry.

In 2015, he met his partner, Stephanie, who became our sister and other daughter. Chris had a great love for his family and friends. His infectious smile and wonderful sense of humour will be treasured.

Family and friends in Alberta and Ontario will have the opportunity to celebrate Chris' life and memories.

In Calgary, funeral arrangements are entrusted to Leyden’s Funeral Home, 304 18 Ave SW, Calgary, Alberta where visitation will be held on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.

In Guelph, funeral arrangements are entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph, Ontario where visitation will be on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 9-11 a.m. followed by a service in the Chapel at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to a charity of your choice in Chris’ memory.
