It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Brian. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at the age of 70.
Loving husband and best friend of 47 years to Debbie (nee Johnston). Devoted father of Kelly Guthrie (Lee), Kendra Mace (Brandon) and Karen Vodden (J.P.). Proud Papa of Ashton, Emily, Cohen, Camron, Blake, Lyndon, Colin and Hayden.
Brian was so proud to be the big brother to Brenda Buck (Bill), Bob, Brad (Carolyn), Bruce (Reanna) and Bill. Dear brother-in-law to Brad Johnston (Pat) and Alan Johnston (Sheila). Brian was also lovingly supported by many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
During his courageous battle against the big “C”, Brian received wonderful care from the Guelph Oncology Department, Grand River Cancer Centre and the Grand River ER and ICU Departments. Our heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for Brian during this difficult time.
Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 11:00 am -1:00 pm. A Royal Canadian Legion Service will be held at 1:00 pm. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1:15 pm. Friends may also attend remotely via Zoom by clicking the link in Brian’s notice on the funeral home website. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Canadian Legion.
A tree will be planted in memory of K. J. Brian Guthrie in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
