It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Margaret Jean Haennel, in her 93rd year. Passed away peacefully, Friday, June 9, 2023, with family by her side at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph, Ontario.

Predeceased by her loving husband Donald (Bud) Haennel (2001).  Her father Jack Black and mother Doris Black.  Her brother Edgar Black (Grace), sister Fran Welch (Bud). Will be dearly missed by her children, Debbie Morgan (Frank) Don Haennel (Heidi), Diane Trento (Mike) and grandchildren, Jillian Perkins-Marsh (Ian), Josh Perkins (Kelly), Matthew Trento (Marlene), Katie Trento-Murray, (Ian), Kristie Haennel (Josh), Casey Haennel.  Her 10 great-grandchildren, Abby, Tyler, Claire, Owen, Emslie, Kenna, Oakley, Audrey, Ruby, Silas.   Mom will also be missed by her very dear friend, Deborah Sherlaw.

Family was mom's absolute priority. As a proud homemaker, she raised her children and grandchildren with lots of love, freedom to explore and full bellies. Her love for her family really shone through her cooking. There was always a hot, nutritious meal on the table and a delicious dessert to enjoy. Mom's pies were the best!  More than just an "avid gardener," her gardens were an oasis. Always guided by a creative, unique vision, her vast gardens flourished with her expertise.  Mom was a talker. Once she started, it was certain to become a long conversation and we are very grateful for her stories. She would always have the spiral phone cord pulled across the kitchen, talking for hours, while cooking a thousand things!  Her authenticity made her a "favourite person" to many. She loved dancing, music and would always be up for leading if you didn't know how to waltz or foxtrot!

Special heartfelt thanks to the PSWs and Nurses on 3 North, Blue Spruce Trail. The wonderful care mom received the past 3.5 years will not be forgotten. Also to Dr. Rosemary Danielli for providing exceptional care for over 35 years.

Friends will be received at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 1-2 pm. A private graveside service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Alzheimer’s Society or The Foundation of St. Joseph’s Health Centre would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Margaret J. Haennel in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
