Passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, at the Guelph General Hospital, on Thursday, March 2, 2017. Katarzyna (Katherine) (Bakalar) Hasyj in her 93rd year, was the beloved wife of the late Wlodimir (Walter) Hasyj (2002). She was the loving mother of Stephen and his wife Linda, and Anna Wilson. Katherine was the proud grandmother (Baba) of Jeannine and her husband P.J. Fletcher, Shaw and his wife Lindsey, Tony and his wife Lizeth, Derek and his wife Shannon, Tanya and her husband Darrell and Natalie, and great-grandmother (Pro Baba) of Ethan, Cora, Sarah, Ella, Devin, Nicolas, Georgia Mae and Penelope. She was the dear sister of Paul and Nastia. Katarzyna and Walter moved to Guelph in 1951 and became proud and active members of the Guelph Ukrainian community. Both were founders and devoted parishioners of Holy Protection of the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church (previously known as St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church).

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Panachyda will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at the Holy Protection Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church, 115 York Rd., Guelph on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 10 a.m. Interment in Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Holy Protection Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
