HECK DORÉ, Elisabeth (Betty)

Posted

Heck Dore Elisabeth MM

April 15, 1932 – October 9, 2021.

Predeceased by her husband, Joseph (Joe) Léon Doré, Betty will be fondly remembered by her five sons, Joseph (Ana), Pierre (Roberta), Marcel (Kathryn), Louis (Donna) and André (Lori), 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many more in her large circle of family and friends.

Betty was the eternal teacher, a quiet influencer, unconventional, ahead of her time, generous, humble, wise, and above all - a woman who lived on her own terms. Betty was born in Antofagasta, Chile, and trained as a teacher. Fiercely individualistic and brave, she met and married Joe in Chile and travelled to Canada with her new husband in 1957. Her wisdom and serene disposition, her positive outlook on life, and her even-tempered gentleness are legacies we will carry with us. She enjoyed thrift-store shopping, family get-togethers, and “world-problem-solving” discussions. Ever the intellectual reader, she voraciously consumed all kinds of books and was always ready to share her knowledge and wisdom.

Betty suffered a stroke on September 27, 2021 and was moved into Hospice Wellington on October 1, 2021. We would like to thank all the staff at Guelph General Hospital and Hospice Wellington for your outstanding care. During her illness, Betty was aware of all visitors and participated fully in decisions until the evening before she passed. She left very simply, no noise, no drama, discreetly and without fanfare, as always on her own terms, surrounded by family and friends.

Cremation will take place, followed by a private family Memorial Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051 / wallcustance.com

If desired, memorial contributions to Hospice Wellington (Guelph) or Salvation Army would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Elisabeth (Betty) Heck Doré in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum.
