HERSEY, Shirley (nee Evans) 1931-2023 - Passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.

She was the beloved wife of the late Lloyd Hersey. Loving mother of Lloyd Hersey (deceased), Christine Brown (Fred), Janet Drake (deceased), Randy Hersey (Roberta) and Kim Roadknight. Adored grandmother of Terry Lynn Pettit, Shelley Robertson (Brett), Christine Hersey, Darlene Drake (Mike), Sheila Austin (Conan), Michael Roadknight (Alison), Ashley Hersey and Jodi Roadknight (Ali). Great grandmother to Emily, Quinnlan, Adia, Jack, Julia, Parker, Lily, Eli and Ayia. Predeceased by her parents, 5 brothers and sister. Survived by siblings Irene Miller, Betty Cornish and Doug, Charlie, Don Evans. Aunt to many but special "Auntie She” to Doug, Nancy, Brandon and Alexandra Evans.

Shirley was a true class act lady. She took great pride in her home and property which she kept as immaculate as she did herself. Even when gardening, her jewelry matched her outfit. Unfortunately, the loss of her children Lloyd and Janet took a large piece of Shirley's heart and a day never went by without them in her thoughts though there was plenty of love left for her family and friends.

When her husband Lloyd was alive, you knew you could find them at the mall and East Side Mario's on the weekends. In her last years, Dairy Queen became a favorite.

Shirley was not one to sit still and enjoyed working outside and inside her home. She loved listening to her country music and laughing while watching "I Love Raymond" and talking to her family and friends on the phone. Her favorite outing was to the cemetery to visit her lost loved ones and upkeep their graves all year round.

She looked forward to and enjoyed tea and toast visits with her brother Don who always looked out for her.

Thanks to the family, Shirley was able to stay at home battling brain cancer. She was able to die in her loving home of 71 years, built by her husband where they raised their 5 children.

No words can express the gratitude felt toward her daughter Kim (aka Nurse Bonnie) who put her life on hold to provide tireless, extraordinary care to her mother 24/7 for many months to allow Shirley to pass peacefully in the home she loved. She will be deeply missed.

Special thanks to the Bayshore Palliative Team and Dr. Spadafora.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Hospital for Sick Children would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Shirley M. Hersey in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
