Howden MM

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Alexander Howden, at the age of 89, at Guelph General Hospital on Monday, February 8th, 2021.

He passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Gail Howden of 58 years, by his side. He was a loving father of Dwayne Howden (Sandy) of Guelph, Dana Neath (Bill) of Guelph. Proud Grampa of Jayden and Jack Howden, Karly Neath-Tavares (Brandon) and Adam Neath (Nataleigh). Much loved Papa to Ruby, Ava and Luke Tavares. Dear brother of Barbara Gerrie (Wayne), Brian Howden (Marion), predeceased by sisters Patricia McCutcheon and Ruth McCaw. Dear brother-in-law of Rick Thornton (Sharon), Faye Pierce (Fred), Nadine Gilmour (Allan), Randy Thornton (Diane). Predeceased by his parents Ellen and William Howden and in-law parents Sue and Vernon Thornton.

Bill was a very compassionate husband, caring father and an especially proud Grampa and Great Papa to all his grandchildren.

He was a strong man, hero to many, surviving many illnesses throughout his life. He was a fighter to the end. We all benefited from his strength and perseverance.

Bill was born and raised in Guelph. He was a devoted employee of Sears for 30 years. He maintained many friendships over the years and loved his yearly visits to Wasaga Beach with his Sears friends.

He loved to travel with his wife and children to Florida and Myrtle Beach every summer, sharing his travel stories with everyone he met. He continued to enjoy travelling with all of his family members and close friends Donny, Anna and Junie as long as he was able.

Bill was an avid Blue Jays fan all his life and was very unhappy that he would miss this next season. He has quite a collection of Blue Jays hats.
He cherished his cars and always insisted they were clean and well maintained.

Bill enjoyed his family time at their park-home in Sauble Beach. He spent many weekends enjoying barbeques together.

Bill will always be remembered for his sense of humour, generosity, patience, and tender heart. He will be missed very much by all.

No memorial events are currently scheduled but hope to schedule a Celebration of Life in the summer. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME 519 822-0051.

Memorial contributions to The Foundation of the Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated.
