Howitt side by side

August 9th 1921 – February 8th 2021

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Mother on February 8, 2021 in Guelph, Ontario at the age of ninety-nine.

Our family was blessed to have had such a wonderful, loving, and caring Mom for so many years. She was so excited about celebrating her 100th birthday in August, unfortunately that was not to be. Mom was known as “Frankie” to family, friends, and anyone else who had the privilege to have met her, she was a social person but also valued her privacy. She once talked to a wrong number for an hour and we never let her forget it. We have our memories and photographs of the wonderful and exciting times we’ve had during family events over the years.

She was born into a large family in Deseronto, Ontario having six sisters and one brother with her being the baby. Frances is predeceased by her first husband, Kenneth Dixon who was killed in a car accident in 1955 and predeceased by her husband Kenneth Dalton Howitt in 2008 of 51 years. She is also predeceased by her parents Francis Shattraw and Frances Maria Shattraw (nee Druce) and predeceased by her sisters Florence, Margaret, Mildred (Millie), Jennie, Annie, Dorothy (Dot) and her brother Donald. She was a loving Mother to Kenneth (Geraldine) Howitt, Gail (William) Stuckey, Grant (Christine) Howitt, Elizabeth (John) Begg and Peter (Lucy Aramini) Howitt. Mom also was blessed with many Grandchildren, Susan, Dawn, Sharon, Paulina (Kevin), Brenda, Laurie-Ann (Jeff), Shane, Karen, Paul (Megan), Julie (Kelly), Stephanie (Taco), Melissa and Matt (Brad) as well as Great Grandchildren and Great-Great Grandchildren, even though she unfortunately did not get the chance to meet them all in person. The family would like to thank Bobbie Schell who took the time on many occasions to visit with Mom.

Remembering Our Mom

We Have Countless Precious Memories
Of The Amazing Mother You Were.....
And Will Ever Recall the Many Ways
Your Love Was Always There.
Remembering What a Skilled Cook You Were,
How You Enjoyed Playing Cards
And Being With Your Family,
Your Spirited Soul.....Your Love of Books,
And The Long Talks we will Miss.
Gentle…..Devoted…..Generous and Gifted,
You Were The Very Heart Of Us.

Mom spent her last 16 months at the Eden House Care Facility in their long term care unit. We were thankful that the home received Mom with open arms and they put us at ease knowing she was receiving the best of care. Many times they commented on how they just loved Frankie. Our sincere thanks to all the staff for the love, care and respect they gave to our Mother especially during these difficult times.
Mom suffered from dementia for her duration at the Eden House which gradually became worst over time, the last few days she was moved to palliative care and declined very quickly. We are grateful to have been able to visit with her, give her our love and say our goodbyes over the last few days.

Due to the current situation, there will be no service. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME AND CHAPEL - 519-822-0051. Condolences can be sent to the family via the funeral home website.

Memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated.
