HUMPHRIES, Gordon Ernest

Posted

Humphries Gord SS

Born to Maude and Ernest, February 29, 1924, passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on July 26, 2022.  Gord was a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces during WW2. He was a longtime member and Elder of Knox Presbyterian Church in Guelph where the Humphries family have been members of the church since the 1800's

In 1947, Gord married his first love, Ruby Moore. Together they raised their family in the home he built independently on Kathleen St. They were married for 26 years when cancer took Ruby away from her family.

Gord reunited with Patricia Sippel, his first childhood kiss and they were married shortly after.  After years of hard work at Lelands and later the Guelph Post Office, he retired to enjoy life with Pat.  They enjoyed summers at Sauble Beach and winters in Florida. Wherever they were, they always had a good group of friends to enjoy a game of bridge or golf with. They were happily married for 44 years before Pat's passing in 2019.

He is remembered by his daughter Karen and her husband Jim Hanna and he was so loved by his granddaughters Michelle (Graham Mayhew), Amy Purdy and his great grandchildren Benjamin, Jack, Nolan and Madalyn. His daughter Marlene and her husband Dennis Keleher. Pat's sons Mark (Brenda Sippel), Robert and David (Pat Sippel, both deceased).

Gord loved a good joke, telling the stories of his life, golfing, going to the casino and crossword puzzles. He shared his love of the Blue Jays with Karen and Graham.  His weekly Sunday morning breakfasts and Wednesday night dinners out with his family always led to him flirting with his favorite waitresses.  Rachel and Janice always brought a twinkle to his eye. He was a quiet, quick-witted gentleman and was loved by everyone who met him. His humor never left him, even at the end.

Special thank you to Shirley Gale for her friendship and spiritual guidance, his friends who looked in on him at his apartment, Siobahn for becoming a new friend to Gord and for being a wonderful support to his family.  The caring nurses and team at Hospice Wellington for their compassion to both Gord and those he loved.

Gord has been cremated and is resting at WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL. A service at Knox Presbyterian Church will be held at a later date, to be announced.

Of all the things he loved, he loved his family the most. We know he's up in Heaven playing with his favorite little girl, Vicky.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Wellington in Gord’s memory
