JORDAN, Stephen Ellis

Posted

Jordan Stephen Ellis MM

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our father. Dad passed away in Kitchener on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, only days away from his 97th birthday.

Loved husband of the late Bernice Jordan, married for 66 years.  Father of Dean (Donna), and Craig (Heidi).  Cherished grandfather of Larissa and Alexander (Tracy), and Elisabeth.  Loving great grandfather of four children.

Dad was born on a farm near Hartpury, UK, in January 1924.

Dad would enthral us all with his stories from his school days, and his engineering efforts during WWII.  Imagine taking shelter under a Morrison table, during the many bombings of London during the war.  Later, taking pride in his engineering efforts in commissioning antiaircraft guns positioned at Beachy Head, UK.

Dad arrived in Canada in 1947, in efforts to reach and settle in British Columbia.  However, this effort was quickly dashed upon meeting his future wife, Bernice, in Toronto.

Growing up, Dad became an Akela, with Cub Scouts, and made us laugh, to no end, teaching us all, including my cousin Jimmy, poker at Gull Lake, during summer nights.  Dad and Mom were great square dancers for many years in Scarborough and it brought them great joy.

Dad and Mom enjoyed a happy 20 years living at the Village by the Arboretum.  Dad was a regular at the “Bridge” table and other Arboretum social events.  Dad was always entertaining with his poetic recitations.  His favourites included: “The Battle of Hastings”, “The Lion & Albert”, and “Eliza Tweet”.

Dad was an exceptional person in learning many different technical and complex engineering systems.  Dad was a valued Professional Engineer while working at Ontario Hydro’s Design and Development Division for almost 40 years.

He was always fascinated with radio as a child, and repaired TV’s in his basement for many years.  Self taught, building sweep generations, oscilloscopes, colour bar generators, he repaired thousands of TV’s!  He was affectionately known as: “UNCLE TV”!

The family would like to praise the staff at Lanark Retirement Home, staff at Guelph General Hospital, Grand River Hospital and Grand River Freeport, and St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener.

Farewell Dad….!  You will be sadly missed, but your generosity with live on forever in your tireless efforts that provided us all happy lives.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements entrusted to WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051

Memorial contributions to The Salvation Army or The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of Stephen E. Jordan in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
