Lorene (Cole) Kaine, the beloved wife of the late Patrick Joseph Kaine (1997), passed away in her 96th year of life at Guelph General Hospital on Saturday, November 19, 2022. She was the loving mother of Michael Kaine and his wife Judy, Anne Laidman and her husband Ken, and the late Robert Kaine and his wife Carol. She was the proud grandmother of Hilary (David) and Natalie, who lovingly called her Geems. She was predeceased by her brothers Jim Cole and Art Cole. Lorene was the dear sister-in-law of Marilyn Cole and Grant Gammie. She will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Lorene took great joy in taking care of her family, friends, and neighbours: cooking for them, celebrating their birthdays, helping in trying times, and always putting others before herself. Her generous nature and love of entertaining meant her home was always a welcoming place. Her famous fruitcake was shared at every Christmas celebration and at family weddings. Lorene’s feisty, frank, and fun-loving character made her a cherished member of each community she was part of throughout her long life.

Lorene brought strength, purpose, and perseverance to everything she accomplished. Growing up on a farm in the Arthur area, she developed a strong work ethic doing chores and cooking for workers during the war. Independence came to her early in life, both moving out of the house and working her first job as a teenager. She later became one of the first of her peers to hold a full-time job as a woman – while also a mother of three – as an assistant lab technician.

Reading was her lifelong passion. It remained a constant outlet through the ups and downs of her 95 years. She also loved tending to her garden and spending time at the cottage with her family. Lorene never missed an opportunity to express gratitude for the small, beautiful moments of life. She will be dearly missed.

We could not be more grateful to Dr. R. Tobin and his staff for always providing her with the very best care for so many years. We also wish to thank the staff of Guelph General Hospital for looking after her so well in her final days.

Private cremation has taken place. Lorene’s immediate family will receive other family members and many friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph on Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 1-2 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the funeral home fellowship lounge. All guests are asked to please wear a mask for the visitation and service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lung Association or to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Donation cards are available at the funeral home 519-822-4731 or online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com
