Born in Toronto, July 27, 1930. Passed away peacefully January 8, 2017 at Riverside Glen Retirement Home, in Guelph Ontario. Loving father to Wendy Keenleyside (Brad Borghese), David, and Tom (Anneke), grandfather to Caitlin Baltzer, Elissa and James Keenleyside. John was predeceased by his brother Hub in 2010, and is survived by his brother David.
John graduated from the U of T Faculty of Medicine in 1954, followed by a specialty in radiology. He practiced at Queensway General Hospital in Etobicoke for his entire career until his retirement in ‘95, serving as Chief of Radiology for several years.
John loved his family and his golden retriever Jake, and cherished spending time with them at the family cottage in Muskoka. An avid birder and nature lover, these pursuits, combined with an insatiable curiosity about the world and a spirit of adventure, culminated in his travels to 65 countries, including to some of the most remote locations on Earth.
Our thanks to the staff at Riverside Glen, who cared for Dad with professionalism and compassion, providing a loving home for him over his last 18 months. Particular thanks to care giver and friend Shirley Hynd, who was there with Dad over the last several years, greatly adding to his happiness and comfort through some very challenging times.
Visitation will be held Friday January 27, 2017 from 7 – 9 pm at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph. Funeral to follow Saturday January 28, 2017 at 1 pm. Donations in lieu of flowers to Alzheimer Society of Canada or Canadian Wildlife Federation.
