Kelly, Lucia "Lucy" Carla -

We are saddened to announce the passing of Lucy Kelly on August 19, surrounded by her loving family. She was almost a month past her 76th birthday.

Lucy was a loving wife to James Patrick for 40 wonderful years. She was a devoted mother to Dawn and Laurie; predeceased in 1993 by son Paul; and the treasured grandmother to Mackenzie, Ethan and Alexandra.

She was a cherished sister to Ida (the late Nilo Fogal).

Predeceased by her parents Giovanni Comacchio and Maria Favrin, and her siblings and their spouses, Eduardo; Bruno (Maria); Lilliana (Gino Ottini); Giorgio; Silvio; Bruna (Brian Ferris). Remembered by sisters-in-law Lois and Marisa.

She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and cousins, as well as friends and neighbours. All will remember her warm smile, quick laugh, and kind heart.

Lucy was the baby of the Comacchio family, immigrating to Canada from Veneto, Italy, in 1953 at the age of 6, with her widowed mother Maria and 5 siblings. They joined her brothers Eduardo, Giorgio and Bruno who paved the way for their new home. Most of the family settled in Guelph, where they were surrounded by cousins and supportive Italian members in the Ward community.

Lucy was a devoted mother and wife, always working tirelessly to take care of everyone. She was a wonderful cook, which her late son Paul especially loved, rarely missing a meal at home. Lucy enjoyed home decorating and kept the house to museum standards. Her family was always her first priority, and she took on this duty with unlimited energy and attention to every detail.

Her detail-oriented personality served her well as a bookkeeper for 40 years. She also ran a craft business with Pat for 10 years. Painting the wood crafts that Pat created allowed her to express her creative side. Lucy also loved sewing and knitting. She was an avid shopper who loved to walk and window shop with her sister Ida, daughters Dawn and Laurie and other beloved family members. Pat was often the chauffeur, patiently sitting in a parking lot somewhere in the United States or abroad, reading a book for hours so she could explore local shops.

Her diagnosis of Alzheimer's in 2019, at the age of 70, was tragic. It prematurely ended her plans, alongside Pat, to enjoy watching their 3 grandchildren grow up and traveling together in their retirement. With the further interruption of Covid she lost her opportunity to fulfil her final travel wish to return to Ireland. She stayed strong as long as she could, enduring this devastating disease that cut her life short.

We are thankful for the love and support of family and friends and the caring staff at Eden House during her final year of life.

Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, where cremation has taken place. The family invites friends and relatives to join for a visitation on Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 10am - 11am, with a Funeral Service beginning in the chapel at 11am. Guests are welcome to a reception following the service.

As expressions of sympathy, the family would appreciate donations to Alzheimer's Society.
