LESINS, Alfred L.

Posted

Passed peacefully in his 97th year on July 16, 2018 with family around him.   Devoted husband to Helle for 65 years and beloved father of Glen (Geraldine) and Ruth (John).  Cherished grandfather to Devin (Emma).

Born in Riga, Latvia in 1921, his youth was spent between city and country living.  The turmoils of World War II eventually led to immigrating to Canada in 1948.

Alfred truly was a self-made man coming to a new country on his own “with only the shirt on his back” and creating a successful life.  He started out logging the forests of Kapuskasing and then settled in Toronto.  He met and fell in love with Helle, married and raised 2 children. Skilled in all things mechanical, he worked primarily in appliance repairs.  He enjoyed sports, the outdoors, photography, fishing, and delighted in finding treasures.  Alfred loved and took pride in his family.  He was always there to generously help them and his loyalty is unforgettable.    Alfred was a good kind man, passionate, reliable, with quite the sense of humour.  We loved him and we will miss him.  A private family service will be held.  In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation in Guelph.
