Linton
Vera Esther Linton, 92, (Guelph, Ontario) passed away peacefully at home on March 10, 2020 from kidney failure. Vera was born on August 7, 1927 in London, England to Jack and May Morris, and was the younger sister of Celia. The family grew up in London and survived the Blitz bombings during the Second World War by hiding in the subway tunnels. Somehow, they always managed to have a bit of fun during those times. Following the war, Vera met her husband, Dan Linton, who was a Canadian playing professional hockey for the London's Harringay Racers. They married on April 23, 1950 in London, and moved to Dan's hometown of Sudbury, Ontario. They had a great group of friends there, including their life-long besties Jim and Eleanor McGinn. After a move to Toronto for Dan's work, they bought a house and started their family. Tracey was born in 1960 and Sandy followed in 1963. Vera and Dan lived in the same house until Dan's death in 2016. In 2018, Vera moved to Guelph to live with Sandy and Hester. Vera was a loving mother who would do anything for her children. She was a fine artist who drew Christmas scenes on the picture windows at the front of the house every year for the whole neighborhood to enjoy. She worked at Sears for many years, where she made life-long friends. Following Dan's retirement, Dan and Vera spent winters in Florida, where again they made many friends, had many parties, and generally had a very good time. Vera is survived by her daughters Tracey (Dan) and Sandy (Hester), her grandson Adam (Karianne) and her sister Celia. Her nephew Dan (Debbie) in Dallas and niece Joanne (Al) in Washington DC were also precious to her. Tracey and Sandy will host a celebration of Vera's life at Sandy's home (35 Fairview Boulevard, Guelph) on Saturday, March 21. Visitors are invited to drop by any time between 1 pm and 8 pm to raise a drink to "the Queen." We thank the Guelph Renal Clinic, the PSWs from Closing the Gap, and the medical team from Bayshore for all their excellent care. Donations to the Kidney Foundation will be gratefully accepted. Donation cards are available at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home (519-821-5077), or online.
