LOBB, Louis (Lou) Joseph

Lobb Lou MM5

March 1, 1936 – November 5, 2021

Lou passed away peacefully in his sleep at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington, Ontario from the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.  Lou was born in Swift Current, SK and moved to Regina with his parents and little sister in 1944 where his brother was later born. Life after WWII was challenging, however, Lou made some enduring lifelong friendships with a group of boys coming from similar circumstances.  He attended public school in Regina and eventually moved to Vancouver, BC in 1956 where he met his future wife and partner Kathleen (Kay) while working at the Orpheum Theater. They were married for 55 years until her death in 2014. Lou and Kay moved back to Regina in 1959 where Lou proudly served for the next 10 years on the City of Regina Police Force.

In his later years, he often spoke of those days and commented how much he loved the comradery and service he experienced during that period of his life.

He eventually rejoined the theatre business and while holding down multiple management positions, he chose to upgrade his education, finishing his High School diploma and attaining a Certificate in Business Administration from the University of Regina.

He also discovered a passion for public speaking through Dale Carnegie and became an accomplished instructor.  He was a voracious reader and actively sought to deepen his spirituality throughout his life.  His communication skills and a tireless work ethic helped him advance in his career that spanned the theatre business, commercial banking and ultimately as Ontario Regional Manager for Moeller Electric.  He used to tell us “I may not be the smartest guy in the room, but there won’t be anyone that will outwork me.”

He also enjoyed mentoring others when the opportunity presented itself. In fact, drawing the best out of people may have been his greatest gift. When first meeting Lou, he could have a somewhat intimidating exterior.  Behind that, those close to him saw a man who loved passionately and deeply; was a protector; was willing to be vulnerable and endeavoured to have his actions align with one of his guiding principals “Do no harm.”

After retirement, he and Kay travelled in Canada, the US and Mexico and enjoyed some Caribbean cruises.  He also made the time to volunteer with the Victoria Order of Nurses driving clients to appointments around the Guelph area. Lou was an avid walker throughout his lifetime, and most times with his dog by his side. He was also a very creative man who loved to build things with his hands.

Lou was the loving father of Gary Lobb (married to Kate) of Calgary, AB, Paul Lobb (married to Sharon) of Kelowna, BC, Kathy Platt (partner of Keith) of St. Catharines, ON.  and brother to Robert Lobb (married to Nina) of Regina, SK.  Lou was the proud grandfather of Tyler, Megan, Michael, Jessica, Kayla and Brandon and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.  Lou was predeceased by his father Paul in 1967, mother Elsie in 2017 and sister Elaine in 1990.
The family will be holding a private interment for Lou in Regina, SK. at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer Society of Canada on Lou’s behalf should you decide to do so.
