Passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 29, 2023 at age 75.

May, her husband Michael and their four children migrated from Jamaica to Canada to enable the family to live better lives, filled with unlimited opportunities. Only three years later she was widowed and became solely responsible for raising her children.

She moved the family to Guelph over 40 years ago and never left. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly in a clothing factory as a machine sewing operator for 13 years. Once she stopped working, she became very active at her church – the Basilica Church of Our Lady – and in her social circles.

May lived independently near Guelph’s city centre where she could easily participate in her volunteer work at the Guelph General Hospital, do her daily exercises (wearing her ubiquitous sunglasses even indoors) and hunt for bargains. May found lottery tickets, mega sales and bargains irresistible. She also loved spending time outdoors on her long walks, annual camping events and even river boat cruising.

May is survived by her son Tony and his partner Nadia; daughters Michelle, LinLyn, and Julie and their partners David and Paddy; her younger brother Colin and his partner Esther; her younger brother Wilson and his partner Candy; her younger sister Sandra and her partner Daniel; her nephews Jeff, Gary, and Raymond; her nieces Sharon, Karen, and Diane; and five grandchildren Liam, Connor, Megan, Sarah, and Rachel.

Friends will be received the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 from 2:00-3:00pm. Funeral service will be held at 3pm. Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.

May’s burial service will be a private ceremony for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers to remember and honour May, we kindly request you consider a donation to the Church of Our Lady or the Guelph food bank. Thank you to the Piovesan family for their donations to these worthy causes.

A tree will be planted in memory of May Y. Lue in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
