Beloved third son of Jacqueline and the late Dr. Deodath Maharaj. Shai was born on July 23, 1969 and died on September 8, 2018. He was the brother of Raj (Rebecca), Sudi (Sara), Shesh (Sue-Ann), Jackie (Graham). He was the Uncle of Zack, Nick, Holly, Kamal, Asha, Nalini, Ravi, Krish, Katya and Rebecca. Great Uncle of Ari and Ollie.
Shai was one of the founders of the Abelard School of Toronto where his students experienced his flamboyant teaching style and his love of imparting knowledge in his own unique way. The love of his life for 35 years was Ariel. He was a simple man with unsurpassed values and he lived by the words of Lao Tzu:
Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies, you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world.
Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life will follow at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051).
He was loved and will be missed by all his family and all who knew him.
