MALAK, Joan (Ivanna Hrychyna)

Passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Health Centre, on February 17th, at the age of 76. Beloved wife of Tadeusz (Tad) Malak, devoted mother to Bernadette (Peter McClenaghan) and Michael (Meredith Gardiner), and loving grandmother of Zachary, Patrick, Michael (Micky), Mckenna and Max. Joan leaves behind her brother Jaroslaw (Jerry) Ellis, his wife Terry and their children Tamra (Andrew Ksenych) and Andrea (Mark Bain), and her nieces and nephews Alexa, Drew, Christian, Evan, Brooke and Matthew. Born in Zolocziw, Ukraine, Joan came to Canada with her parents Michael and Olga and her brothers Roman (deceased) and Jaroslaw through Pier 21 in 1949 as refugees. Joan was a devout Catholic emanating elegance and grace. Ahead of her time, she practiced yoga before it was popular, cooked healthy gourmet foods before they were the rage, and loved everyone unconditionally. 

A Funeral Mass will be held at the Basilica of Our Lady on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Mental Health Association of Waterloo Wellington, or to St. Joseph's Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
