In Loving Memory of Nicolae (Nick) Alexandru Mares

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Nick after a valiant 6-month battle with cancer. Surrounded by the love of his family, he gracefully transitioned from this life. Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Eva, his cherished son and daughter, Marcus (wife Erin) and Renata, and his adored grandchildren, Beckham and Dylan. Nick's unwavering devotion to his family and the profound love he shared with them will forever be remembered.

Nick's influence reached far beyond his immediate family, spanning continents as he sought to provide the best life for his loved ones. He forged connections with people from various cultures and countries, creating extended family units throughout his travels. His journey led to lifelong friendships and a diverse career at the Centre, Linamar, of which he was immensely proud. Starting as a seasoned mechanic in Romania, he ventured through various roles in Hungary before taking a courageous leap to Rochester, NY, where he humbly worked as a school janitor despite his extensive training. The community in Rochester became a second family to Nick, leaving an enduring impact on his heart. Seeking a different path, he brought his family to Guelph in 1996, where he remained and contributed significantly to work social clubs. In Guelph, Nick found joy in the camaraderie of his golfing and social communities, fostering lasting friendships.Nick's love for photography was a passion that illuminated his life. He leaves behind a vast library of beautiful photographs that captivate the essence of his adventures, travels, and the cherished moments with his family. Some of these photographs are on display at local businesses, serving as a visual testament to his artistic vision and love for storytelling through images. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff at Bayshore, Hope Springs, Red Cross, and Hospice Wellington, especially Dr. Cary Shafir, for their unwavering care and compassion during Nick's final months. The large care team, from Grand River Cancer Center to St. Joe's Hamilton, and our family doctor in Guelph, played crucial roles in Nick's journey.

In honor of Nick's memory, there will be no formal service, but a celebration of life will be held at the Canadian Hungarian House located at 979 Kossuth Rd Cambridge, ON  N3H 4R6 on April 13th, 2024. To RSVP, please contact Marcus at [email protected]

Nick's life was marked by love, dedication, a commitment to both family and community, and an enduring passion for photography and golf, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

Forever remembered, forever cherished, and dearly missed.
