Born on July 4, 1927 in Sydney Mines, NS, passed away peacefully with her children around her in her 97th year on September 9, 2023. She was the last Matriarch of the old West End neighborhood.

Left to remember he are her 3 children: Brenda Contreras and her husband Fred of San Angelo, Texas, Marlene Congi of Guelph and Ron Matthews of Meaford; her grandsons: Christopher Contreras and his wife, Dianna of Leander, Texas, Rory Congi and his wife Jen of Cambridge, Matthew Congi and his wife Sarah of Fergus, Jamie Congi and Adam Congi of Guelph, her great-grandchildren: Brendan Contreras of Leander, Texas, Alexis Ryan of Cambridge, Annabelle Congi and Dominic Congi of Fergus. She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends.

Mom & Dad had a full life: yearly trips to Sydney Mines, family camping, dancing at the Legion and Glen Morris Hall and at the cottage in Varney, bus tours and airplane rides to England, Hawaii and Texas.

Predeceased by her husband, Ernest of 66 years, her parents, William Ralston and Clara Ralston and 2 infant brothers, William Ralston and Ronald David Ralston.

Visitation will be held at the Brombal Funeral Home (formerly Gilchrist Chapel), One Delhi Street (at Eramosa Road), Guelph on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 10a.m. – 12 p.m. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home chapel at 12 p.m. Lunch will be served afterwards in the Trillium Room of the funeral home. Entombment will be held at Marymount Cemetery following the luncheon.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at 4 West at the Guelph General Hospital, their neighbours, home care nurses, PSW’s and Dr. Pavenal for their support and wonderful care.

Memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated.
