MAYER (Taylor, Adams, nee Sutton), Elizabeth Jane (Bette)

Posted

Mayer, Elizabeth

Passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital, on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at the age of 91 years. Beloved wife of the late Alan Taylor (2020), the late Alfred Mayer (1996) and the late D. Rae Adams (1978). Proud mother of Mark Adams and Sue McGinnis. Cherished Nana to Mike (Jess) McGinnis, Scott (Meagan) McGinnis and Aaron Adams.  Adored “Girl GG” to Grace, Molly, Maeve, Naomi and Hilton McGinnis.  Bette will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Bette grew up in Campbellford, Ontario, graduated high school there, and began her nursing career at Peterborough Civic Hospital. She nursed there, in Toronto and in Winnipeg over the many years she practised and was well-loved by her patients and colleagues. Over the years, Bette and Alan spent winters at “On Top of the World” in Clearwater, Florida and enjoyed golfing and entertaining many friends and relatives there.  They lived in Belleville until 2012 when they moved to Guelph and enjoyed golfing at Maryhill until the age of 87! She loved playing cards, games and travelling, visiting many countries throughout her years. Following a number of health issues over the last few years, she suffered a serious heart attack and passed peacefully in her sleep in the evening of January 27, 2022.  Bette was the last of the ten Sutton siblings to pass, and we hope we can continue the legacy of their love.

Many thanks to the staff at Guelph General Hospital, Dr. Chris Stemerdink, and the caring staff at Guelph Lake Commons for their care and assistance.  Cremation has taken place.  An informal, simple celebration of Bette’s life will be held at GILCHRIST CHAPEL – McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph, (519-824-0031) (lower level) on Wednesday, February 2 from 2 - 4 p.m.  Preregistration is required. Please email [email protected] with your name and the time that you will be coming. Masks and proof of double vaccination are also required to attend. A private family ceremony to inter hers and Alan’s ashes will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Hospice Wellington or the Guelph Humane Society would be appreciated.  We invite you to leave your memories and donations online at: www.gilchristchapel.com and they will be forwarded to the family.
