Our beautiful Mom inside and out, Donna McDermott, was finally called to her Lord in her 99th year on May 15, 2021. Donna was born to Steve and Sophie Matwey in Kitchener, ON and was the oldest of 6 children. She grew up in Toronto and moved to Guelph in her later teens, where she met the love of her life, John (Mac) McDermott. They married in 1946 and eventually had 6 children.

Mom loved to garden and worked at Sears for over 30 years, where she was known for outfitting young kids with their first pair of shoes. She loved to play Bridge and sing and was a member of the Silvertones Choir Group.

Mom and Dad loved to dance. They Square danced and Round danced for many years, and were the best couple on the dance floor when it came to
waltzing. They taught us kids to dance with Polka parties in the living room. Mom took up lawn bowling with Dad once they both retired, and then
started line dancing which she continued into her 90's. We all hope she is once again dancing with Dad. They loved to travel and had trips to Italy, where visiting the Vatican was the highlight of that trip, to Portugal, Britain, an Alaskan Cruise and annual trips to Alberta and B.C. to visit their Western kids and grandkids.

Mom was a devout Catholic and lived a good Christian life. She was a founding member of St. Joseph's Church and the CWL. She volunteered at St Joseph's Home and Birth Right. The McDermott house was always open to our friends and family where she shared her love of food and cooking - pierogies being one of the favourites! Mom always said that it didn't matter how noisy the house was, as long as it was happy noise!

Donna is survived by her children Marianne, Janet (Chuck), Steve, Peggy (David), daughter-in-law Sue; grandchildren Sara (Mike), John, Jake (Sarah), Katie (Chris), James, Ryan (Alicia), Ben, and her 10 Great Grandchildren. She was a part of many of our friends' lives and is also survived by special friend and our brother in spirit Paul Valeriote and his wife Janetta. She is predeceased by her husband John, her sons Rob and Rick, her son-in-law Ron, daughter-in-law Verna, her parents and 5 siblings. We would like to thank those at the Ellington, Riverside Glen and St. Joseph's Health Centre for their care and support of our mom in her final years.

A small private Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at St. Joseph's Church followed by interment at Marymount Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St Joseph's Health Centre or to a charity of your choice.
