It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Clare on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at the age of 67 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Clare was the loving partner of Judy Vander Vlugt. Stepdad of Jenna Fleming (Matthew) and Derek Vander Vlugt. He was the son of the late Leonard and Edna McDougall. Clare was the brother of Stephen and Garth. Father to Amber and Sarah. Brother-in-law to Debbie Finley (Steve)
Clare was such a kind and loving soul. He always had a positive outlook on life and was willing to help anyone in need. He was a proud member of NA for 18 years. He truly lived all the principles of the organization and was living proof that addiction can be beat. Clare was also a volunteer at the Homewood and supported many people in their recovery. He loved giving back to society for what he had been given.
Clare loved chasing trains. You could find him at many train tracks just waiting to take pictures of the next train to come in. He belonged to the Guelph Historical Railway Association. He loved walking for hours in nature along with Bear and Hannah. He loved animals and also had a fondness for history.
Clare will be greatly missed by his many friends and family members.
A celebration of Clare’s life at the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Homewood Health Centre – Addictions Department would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Clare L. McDougall in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
