James Mervyn Mighton, of 32 Bayberry Drive, Guelph, Ontario, passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on April 20, 2024, at the age of 94. Born on June 9, 1929, in Woodstock, Ontario, Jim lived a life rich with purpose and kindness.

Known as “Gentleman Jim”, Jim’s career at Ralston Purina began at the age of 16, where he worked in the mailroom before and after school. Over his 42 year career, he held various positions in CreditAdministration, Salesand Plant Management.

Jim’s love for music was evident throughout his life. He played the piano and sang in church choirs from his teenage years to well into his 90s.  Jim was a Mason and a Rotarian.

Retirement didn’t slow Jim down; it merely opened new doors. His volunteer work included the heartwarming “Coffee and Caring” outreach at Allendale Long Term Care Home and helping to oversee the construction of the new parish hall at St. George’s Lowville. The Anglican Diocese of Niagara recognized his commitment to St. George’s with the Order of Niagara.  Jim was on the volunteer board that built Martindale Gardens Retirement Home in Milton. 

Jim loved sailing.  In retirement, his hobbies included flying model airplanes with the Campbellville Buzzards, and model railroading with the Village by the Arboretum Model Railroad Club.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, William Esbin Garfield Mighton and Winnifred Mighton (nee Fletcher), wife Frances Clare Mighton (nee Hart), daughter Catherin(Chris) King, stepson Bob Spicer and siblings: Arthur Mighton, Olive Thorne, Edward Mighton, Harold Mighton, Glenna Nelson, and Victoria Scalisi.

He leaves behind his wife Kay Spicer/Mighton, children Laura (Kevin) Eryou and Steven (Barb) Mighton, stepchildren Susan Spicer, Patricia Spicer  and a lineage of grandchildren—David (Jenn) King, Clare King, April (Samir) Khabbaz, Elsbeth (Greg) Dowhan, Eric (Madison) Eryou, Stacey Mighton, Thomas (Lauren) Mighton, Morgan (Alex Roe) Angrove, Hilary (Mark Taylor) Angrove, and Ryan Angrovealong with six great-grandsons  and one great-granddaughter.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during visitation hours at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Hart Chapel 1099 Gordon St., Guelph, ON on Sunday, April 28, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, April 29, at St. George’s Lowville 7051 Guelph Line, Milton ON from 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will follow immediately at 11:00 a.m. at the same location.  Jim’s interment will be at the Oxford Memorial Park CemeteryRR3, Woodstock ON, April 29 at 2:30 p.m.  Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Wellington.

James Mervyn Mighton’s legacy will echo through the lives he touched, reminding us to live with kindness, passion, and a song in our hearts.
