With very heavy hearts, the family would like to announce the passing of John Andrew Ofsonka at the age of 78, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Veronica Marguerite (nee Carignan) Ofsonka (1998). John was the dear father of Jonna (Frank) Figuli and Belinda (Scott) Sargent and step-father of Alice Volpe, Micheal Kmita and the late Patricia McDonald (2005). He was the loving grandpa of Frankie, Jonessa Cailin, Barry and Craig. John is survived by his sister Ann. He was the loving uncle of Wanda, Eddie and Debra and great-uncle to many great-nieces and nephews.
John was the most kind-hearted, loving man who enjoyed his family and friends. He was a passionate bowler and baseball player and he loved watching the Toronto Blue Jays. He was a long-time employee of the Ontario Jockey Club.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Guelph General Hospital, St. Joseph's Rehab and Hospice Wellington for their care and compassion.
The family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre & Sons Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph on Friday, March 31, 2017 from 9-11:30 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. Interment, Woodlawn Memorial Park, Guelph. A celebration of John’s life will follow. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
