It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Doreen Pellin, peacefully at home, on Monday, August 7, 2023 with all her family at her side in her 79th year.

Doreen was the beloved daughter Emilio “Neil” Pellin (1988) and Edith Pellin (2010). Dearest sister of Pat Harris (Sid), John (Karen), Tim (Leona), and Mike (Erica). Doreen was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews Christine (Tim), David, Shelley (Kelly), Christopher, Jenny, Katie, Kathy (Brad), Sarah (Cam), Michael (Chelsea), and Jason (Kendahl). Proud great aunt to Andrew, Melanie, Alexandria, Jackson, Lukas, Derek, Zachary, Bella, and Kooper. Treasured niece of Don Gray (Mary) and was predeceased by many aunts and uncles. She will be deeply missed by all her many cousins.

Doreen also leaves behind so many dear, dear friends, especially Ted, Phyllis, Christine, Fred and Patti, Cathy and Rob, Ken and Edith, and particularly, John and Jean, who were not only her friends but also the most thoughtful and helpful neighbours one could ever have.

Doreen was fiercely independent, loved her family and friends, and loved helping people. She was sweet and gentle, passionate about her music, dancing (especially line-dancing), and her beautiful garden. She loved to read, play cards, do puzzles, and watch old movies. Doreen’s biggest gift of all was that she could find humour in almost anything and she could make you laugh right along with her.

Doreen worked for the Wellington Catholic School Board and taught grade 1 for 33 years. She loved every minute of it.

In her retirement, she was a member and volunteer with the Guelph Wellington Seniors’ Association for 17 years. Doreen was involved in many activities providing background music for dances, fashion shows, teaching classed in Bid Eucher and SOLO, teaching line-dancing, and service on many executives. This is where she formed life-long friendships that she cherished and got to share her love of music with.

During the last year and a half, Doreen had many health challenges and long hospital stays. She met them all with head on fortitude, tenacity, and humour.

Doreen wanted us to express her gratitude and thanks to her family doctors, Dr. Ruddock and Dr. Lee, for their compassionate care and support. Also, many thanks to her doctors, nurses, and support staff at Guelph General Hospital, as well as the nurses at St. Joseph’s Health Centre.

Resting at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N. Guelph, where the family invites friends and relatives to join for visitation on Tuesday August 15, 2023 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, and 6:00pm – 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30am on Wednesday, August 16 at Holy Rosary Church, 175 Emma St. Guelph. Burial will be at Marymount Catholica Cemetery, 5400 Highway 6, Guelph followed by a reception there in the Mausoleum.
