It is with great sadness that we, the Polo family, announce the peaceful passing of Angelo, lovingly surrounded by family at St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Guelph, on Friday, December 22nd, 2017. Angelo was the cherished husband of Mina (nee Dametto). They recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary. He was the proud and devoted father of Paula, Rose and Victor. Angelo is lovingly remembered by his siblings, Peter (Gemma) Polo, Giuseppina (late Marcello) Cremasco, Pierina (Sandro) Cusinato, all of Guelph, and Giovanna (Sergio) Gesuato of Italy. He was the dear brother-in-law of John Dametto and Bruna Polo. Angelo will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, late of Italy, Vittorio and Ida Polo, and by his brothers, Lorenzo and John, late of Guelph and by his sisters, Giovanna and Luigia, late of Italy, as well as brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in Canada, Angelo and Teresina Dametto, Luigi and Rina Dametto, and Giuseppe and Teresina Dametto. Angelo worked for the City of Guelph, Public Works Department for 30 years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed his garden, had a love of sports, and later in life, could always be found sitting in his favourite chair, relaxing in the backyard. Birthday celebrations will never be the same without Dad’s boisterous unique singing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’. We were so fortunate to have one last big celebration for Dad’s final birthday amongst all of our relatives. It was the greatest blessing to him. Dad, your love was unending and there was no other priority for your dedication to family. You will never be forgotten and you will remain in our hearts forever.

‘Sì, papà, cercherò di ricordare di andare piano con la macchina’.

The family would like to thank Drs. Landis and Spadafora and the incredible nursing staff at both the Guelph General Hospital, 7th Floor Stroke Unit and St. Joseph’s Whispering Oaks Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care over the past two months. Special thanks to Dr. Anna Issakoff-Meller for her care of Dad over the years. We are eternally grateful to our relatives, friends, co-workers and neighbours for all their love and support during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin St. N., Guelph on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Vigil in Angelo’s memory will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John’s Church, 45 Victoria Rd. N., Guelph on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, to St. John’s Church or to St. Joseph’s Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
