It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Danilo Poloniato on February 8, 2024, in his 88th year, at the Guelph General Hospital.

Beloved husband to Valeria Santin. Loving father to Dennis (Snezana) and Eddie (Marina). Proud nonno to Dennis Jr, Correy, Christopher, Jamie, Nicholas, Christian (Meghan), Jason (Monica) and Katarina. Cherished bisnonno to Caelum. Dear brother of the late Galileo, the late Edda, Renza, the late Floriana, Renzo and Anna. Predeceased by his first wife Marisa Liliana Poloniato. Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and the Cecchetto family.

Danilo's journey began in Italy, and as a young man, he immigrated to Canada, where he built a rich and fulfilling life. He began his career as a labourer for Guelph Malleable Iron and eventually for Bernardi Construction. One of Danilo's greatest joys in life was the beautiful game of soccer. Being an avid fan, he embraced the sport with unmatched enthusiasm and skill, especially while playing for the Guelph Settebello Soccer Club. He was a respected and valued player, even continuing his passions with his family. Some of his greatest memories were shared with his grandchildren when they would watch the World Cup Finals with him.

A special thank you to Dr. Morris and all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Guelph General Hospital 4th floor east for their compassionate care and dedication to Danilo.

Arrangements entrusted to Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, 1099 Gordon St, Guelph. Visitation will take place on Wednesday February 14, 2024, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm, with a Vigil at 8:45pm. Funeral Mass on Thursday February 15, 2024, at 10:30am at St. John's Parish, Guelph. Entombment and reception to follow.

As expressions of sympathy, donations made to the Guelph General Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences can be made online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
