Passed away peacefully at St Joseph’s Health Centre on Saturday, February 19th, 2022, in her 83rd year.
Reta leaves behind her husband Donald (Don) of 65 years. She was a loving Mom to Susan, Renee Nelson (Mike), Jennifer O’Brien (Dan) and Michelle Lamont (Brian). Reta got her nickname “Mama” when her oldest granddaughter could not say Gramma. Mama has stuck since 1986. Meagan, Sean, Heather, Crystal, Cayla, Chelsea, Nikki and Bekki will cherish all their wonderful memories. Mama was so proud of her 12 great grandchildren. Reta was a loving sister to Joan Floto, Eleanor Cerson, Paul Smith, John Smith and Deb Rae. She is predeceased by her parents Percy (Pat) and Reta Smith.
Reta was born and raised in Guelph. She was married in 1957 and raised her 4 girls. While raising her young family, Reta attended night school and received her ECE diploma. She started a nursery school, Big L - Live, Love & Learn in her family basement where many families become friends. She later went on to supervise the Rotary Childrens’ Centre in Guelph and then became a regional consultant for the Ontario Association of Community Living. During retirement, Reta and Don spent time in Florida where they made a lot of memories. Reta volunteered at Hospice Wellington as she was trained in Therapeutic Touch. Reta will be remembered as a kind, caring, compassionate, loving and free-spirited woman.
