(November 24, 1929-January 14, 2024)

Barbara’s wish came true.  She passed peacefully in the house she and Dad built seventy-two years ago and in the loving company of her five children.  That house will forever hold the memory of a devoted mother to her twins Debbie Harkies (d. Bill) and Janice Pettis (Stan), Cindy Herron (d. Larry), David (Wendy) and Kathryn Roberts (Carl).  Barbara was predeceased by her husband, John Ross (Barney) Reid (2010).

Mom took pride in her yard and garden and until this last summer insisted on helping. Dandelions shrivelled at the very sight of the tiny woman hauling her lethal sprayer. Although mom became increasingly distressed by declining physical abilities, her mind remained engaged. Conversations centred around current events, favourite TV shows, books being read, and reminiscing about people and places growing up in Guelph.

Most of all she enjoyed family visits. Mom was the link keeping everyone up-to-date on family news. She began confusing people and facts, not from cognitive decline, but the challenge of keeping track of five children, sixteen grandchildren (Andrew, Christopher (d. 2021), Laura; Amanda, Michelle, Becky, Jeff; Amy, Matthew, Corey; Nathan, Bailey, Eric, Shannon; Cohen, Chloe) and thirteen great-grandchildren!

Mom was a strong, dignified woman and a supportive, non-judgmental listener. It will be easy to fulfill her last wish - that the large family she loved remain close in her absence. She will never truly be absent.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ruddock and Bonita for their support and compassion through this difficult time.

In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will not be a service. If desired, a donation to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
