It is with sadness, yet with gratitude for a life well lived, that the family announce the sudden passing of Robert James (Bob) Renton Sr. at the Guelph General Hospital on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

Bob was born in Egremont Township on the family farm on May 9, 1935, the eldest child of Alexander and Lillian (Carmount) Renton.

Beloved husband and soulmate of Eileen (Hunter) Renton for over 65 years. Loving father of Deborah (Neil) Pegg of Nova Scotia, Rob Renton (Stephanie Strand) of Cambridge, Kathryn (Daniel) Constable of Ottawa and Susan (Steve) Aram of Guelph.

Proud grandfather of Alex (Robyn MacDonald) Pegg & Erin (Devin Piccott) Pegg of Nova Scotia, Michelle (Charles Gobeil-Roberge) Pegg of Yellowknife, Courtney Constable of Hamilton, Jonathan (Caroline Wallace) Constable of Ottawa, Dustin (Tanaika Bisschop) Aram of Fort Erie, Kyle (Lexus Hudson) Aram, Blake (Alexis Dempsey) Aram and Luke Aram of Guelph. 

“Big” great grandpa of Donovan Aram, Amelia and Darcy Pegg, Ellis and Sullivan Piccott, Elizabeth Roberge, and baby girl Constable due soon.

Bob taught with the Wellington County Board of Education for 35 years, both as a teacher and principal.  Bob retired in 1991.  He had fond memories of the many children he taught throughout those years.

Bob enjoyed his many years of fellowship with the Guelph Curling Club and The Wellington Men’s Club.  Bob had a special talent for woodworking, gardening and telling a good story.

Bob was a long time member of Westminster St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder and clerk of session for some 40 years until its closure and then found a new home at Knox Presbyterian Church.

Dear brother of William (Gertie) Renton and Douglas (Gilly) Renton and brother-in-law of Audrey Renton, Marie Renton, and Marilyn Rae.

Predeceased by his sisters Anne Robinson and her husband Howard Robinson, Emilie Mooney and her partner Ivan Wonch, Eleanor Lyons and her husband Neil Lyons and his brothers George Renton, Rodger Renton and his wife Mary Lee Renton, Jim Renton and brother-in-law Arnold Rae.

Cremation has taken place.  Friends will be received for visitation at WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 1-2 pm.  Memorial service at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel.  Reception to follow in the Wall-Custance Family Reception Centre.  A private interment will be held at Woodlawn memorial Park.  (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).

The family wishes to express their thanks to the caring emergency responders (police, fire and paramedics) and Guelph General Hospital Emergency staff.

 

A tree will be planted in memory of Robert (Bob) J. Renton in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
