April 14,1927 – August 8, 2022

After several wonderful summer adventures, Dad has joined the love of his life for heavenly happy hour. He enjoyed life to the very end, with his wit and ability to make those around him smile. Now he is having gin & tonics with Sylvia, reunited after more than 15 years.

He leaves behind his wife Betty, children Chris (Jamie), Lesley (Bruce), Sue (Todd), and Andy (Todd). His five granddaughters (Lindsey, Kate (Noel), Jess, Amy (Andrew), and Bailey) were his pride and joy and they will miss Grampa always. Great-granddaughter Sophie always brought a smile to his face. Attending Amy and Andrew’s wedding was one of his final adventures, as was going to Sharbot Lake for a daughters’ getaway.

To have spent his final months at The Elliott Community was a gift beyond compare. The extent of the care, compassion, expertise, and love he received cannot be put into words. Everyone should be so lucky to have this level of care. His love of words and sparring with them were more than just tolerated, they were celebrated; he was showered with attention (his lovely Roses, his nurses, his PSW’s, there is not a person he came across that did not rise above expectations), and his days were brightened. Every. Single. Day. The family cannot sing the praises of this superlative home away from home enough. If we could, we would name you all, to let the world know there were no lengths to which you would not go for our dad. He knew it. We knew it. And we love you all for it.

Please raise a glass to our dad, who had his last bourbon toast just hours before he passed away.

A fitting finale to a life well lived.

Cremation has taken place. No service will be held, in keeping with Dad’s wishes.

Donations in his memory to The Elliott Community would be appreciated by the family.

We love you, Dad.

Arrangements entrusted to the Gilchrist Chapel McIntyre & Wilkie Funeral Home, One Delhi Street, Guelph (519-824-0031). We invite you to leave your memories online at: www.gilchristchapel.com and they will be forwarded to the family.
