July 13, 1931 – May 13, 2023

In loving memory of Brian Rothwell. Predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth and brother Desmond. He was the proud father of Susan (Ching Yu Wang), Christopher (Joy Leschiutta), Heather (Kent Wadsworth), 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Born in England, Brian completed his degree in chemistry at Queen’s University, Belfast, and pursued careers in science, teaching and real estate. He became engaged to Elizabeth, the love of his life, and during their marriage they lived in Kingston, Montreal, Providence, RI and Uganda. Upon returning to Canada, the family settled in Don Mills, Ontario where he continued to teach college level chemistry. As empty nesters, Brian and Elizabeth moved to Guelph in 1984. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on June 1, 2022 and lived in their own home until 2022.

Rooted in the Anglican tradition, Brian’s Christian faith was central to his life and he was devoted to service, Bible study and daily devotions. Brian was known for his insatiable curiosity, quirky sense of humour, and love of sweets. He was never without a book on the go and it was rare that you could enter his home without being asked for assistance in solving a crossword puzzle. He was interested in travelling, camping, plants, trees, birds and most especially the lives of everyone he met.

The family offers profound thanks to: the caring staff at St. George’s Anglican Church, Guelph; the professional team at Gilbert MacIntyre & Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, Guelph; and the loving staff at Barnswallow Place Care Community, Elmira, who provided Brian with tender care in his last months of life.

Your thankfulness for Brian is the greatest gift, but if you are so moved, donations can be made in Brian’s memory to The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (https://pwrdf.org/) or Groves Hospital Foundation (https://www.grovesfoundation.com/)

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 1:30pm - 2:00pm at St. George’s Church, 99 Woolwich St., Guelph, followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 2:00pm. All are welcome to join a reception immediately after the service. Live streaming as well as a recorded video will be available on youtube and can be found by searching the website of St. George’s Anglican Church, Guelph. Cremation has taken place.

Psalm 121: I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
