RUHL, Owen Michael
August 16, 2017 – August 17, 2023

Owen died peacefully at home on the day after his sixth birthday with his parents by his side, a short 10 months after a devastating diagnosis of an aggressive brain tumour. Owen is survived by his devoted parents, Michael and Courtney and bro-bro, Wesley, along with his loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, and beloved cuzzies.

Owen was kind, gentle, silly and brave. He wore his big heart on his sleeve and all of his feelings were outsized. He delighted in the small ordinary beauty around him - the moon and stars, a perfect stick, a special leaf, acorn or pebble. He loved animals, movies, dinosaurs, costumes, walks in the deep, school, the beach, and art.

Over the past 10 months Owen made the most of every day, visiting family, making fancy breakfasts, finding treasures, taking memorable trips, believing in magic and laughing heartily.

Owen and his family received overwhelming support from our community, some very special doctors, family, friends, neighbours, teachers, and colleagues. We were shown kindness and generosity at every turn and for that, will be forever grateful.

Owen is sorely missed. In remembrance of him, we encourage you to treasure your people and pets, go for a walk and notice something small and wonderful, or get cozy with a pizza to watch Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. If Owen could, that’s what he’d be doing.

A private family interment will take place in the fall. For those who wish, donations can be made in Owen’s memory to the Guelph Public Library or the World Wildlife Fund or to a worthy charity of your choice.
