Passed away peacefully with her family by her side in Guelph on Friday,
February 19, 2021 at the age of 82 years. Born in Scligliano, a small
town located in the hills in the province of Cosenza in the Calabrian
region of southern Italy. She was the beloved wife of the late Franco
Sacco (2013) and loving mother of Andreina (John) Reynolds and Angela
(Fabio) Montoya. Cherished grandmother of Candace (James) Winfield,
Brittany (Sean) Arnold, Amanda and Mikael. Great grandmother to Nolan
and Ava. Maria was known to be kind and generous, she deeply touched the
hearts of those around her. Her faith was an important part of her life.
Her love, devotion, generous hospitality and memories will remain
indelible and everlasting in the lives of her children, grandchildren,
great-grandchildren as well as her faith community. She gave each one a
unique part of herself.

One of her most precious gifts was her amazing talent for writing
poetry and her ability to convey her love to each family member in her
hand written letters, marking special moments in their lives. She had
true unconditional love for her grandkids, the light of her life. She
never left a room without saying I love you to them over and over.
Always slipping money into one pocket and a treat into the other.
Sleepovers were full of late night movies, cookies and milk,
neighborhood walks, early morning chocolate bars and watching the Food
Channel together. Being picked up after school by Nana always meant a
trip to the treat store. Her great-grandchildren were lucky enough to
feel her love and were always at ease in her arms, she had a special
embrace only “Nini” could give.

We know that she is smiling down upon her family because she always
smiled when her family was gathered together. One of her favourite
things was the many family road trips taken with everyone packed into
the same car. Family was at the core of who she was. She was caring and
nurturing. To her, food was love. She could whip up a gourmet meal at a
moment’s notice out of just what was in the refrigerator or in her
garden, of which she took so much pride. We celebrate her life as a
loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her
presence will forever be felt by all. Though absent, she is ever near,
forever missed and always loved.

Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. A
tree planting memorial will take place at a later date. As expressions
of sympathy, donations can be made to Hospice Wellington in Guelph.
