It is with the most profound sadness that we announce the passing of Stephen John Olgierd Sajkowski, on October 27, 2022 with his family by his side. Steve passed away following a 16-month long battle against cancer, which he fought with courage and fierce determination.

Steve will forever be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Cheryl (nee Becker); children, Brandy (Derek), Ashley (Michael) and Michael (Alissa); and grandchildren, Kai, Taylor, Lincoln, Vanessa, Jessa, Ella and Max.

He will be deeply missed by his mother Barbara Sajkowski and mother-in-law Bruna Becker; siblings Chester (Christina), Charlene (Cam) and Barbie, extended family; Christine (Henry), Eric (Lorraine), Mark (Doreen) and Jacqueline (Gary). As well as his aunts, uncles, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his father Ollie Sajkowski (2011) and father-in-law Jack Becker (2003).

Steve loved to make lasting memories with his family and friends. He spent many years volunteering his time at the Guelph Legion, looking forward to heading to the camp and the annual fishing trips up North. He loved to tell jokes, laugh and share a Labatt’s 50. but above all, he loved his family.

He was a local bricklayer and co-owner of C&S Masonry from 1985 to 1993, and a dedicated employee at Colt Canada since 1999.

Steve was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Br.234 Guelph since 1980, he received the Legionnaire of the Year award in 2014 and was awarded the Life Member Award in 2018. He served many roles at the Legion over the years, but most will remember him as The Big Guy, who managed the Kitchen. Steve’s Sunday Dinners and Christmas in July were always sold out, if anyone was ever looking for Steve, he was at The Legion.

The family would like to thank all the healthcare professionals at Hamilton General Hospital, Juravinski Hospital and Guelph General Hospital who cared for Steve, and extend an extra special thank you to the PSW team at Closing the Gap, Guelph EMS, and staff at The Mark Preece Family House for their care and compassion over the past year.
