Passed away on January 15, 2023 surrounded by family and friends, after a short battle with cancer.
Beloved father of Jair, cherished brother of Chantal, Herriot, Pierre, and of the late Michael-Ange and Gina, dearest partner of Corinne, devoted nephew and cousin to many in Haiti, France, and Canada, Joubert was also a faithful friend and a well-respected academic at the University of Guelph.
Born in Jacmel, Haiti, November 30, 1958, Joubert excelled academically from a very young age and moved to Port-Of-Prince to continue high school at Lycée Toussaint-Louverture. He later graduated from the École Normale Supérieure and the Université d’État d’Haiti.
He came to Canada in 1992, to complete a Masters in Education and a PhD in Haitian Literature at the University of Montréal. He then received a position at the University of Guelph, in the School of Languages and Literatures.
While at the University of Guelph, he touched many by his generosity, kindness, collegiality and devotion. He impressed even more by his vast knowledge of literature and his love of poetry which he enjoyed sharing. Admired by all, Joubert has inspired many to pursue their interests in literature. A tireless writer and an exceptional poet, his legacy will survive him.
Joubert humbly walked through life with grace and elegance.
Service will be held at Wall-Custance Funeral Home 206 Norfolk St., Guelph on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 1:30pm with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park 762 Woolwich St., Guelph. A reception will be held from 3:15-5:00 pm at the Cutten Club 190 College Ave E, Guelph. Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL (519-822-0051 / www.wallcustance.com).
A tree will be planted in memory of Joubert Satyre in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.

Père bien-aimé de Jair, frère chéri de Chantal, Herriot, Pierre, et des regrettés Michael-Ange et Gina, partenaire très cher de Corinne, neveu et cousin dévoué pour beaucoup en Haïti, en France et au Canada, Joubert était également un ami fidèle et un professeur très respecté à l’Université de Guelph.
Né à Jacmel, en Haïti, le 30 novembre 1958, Joubert a excellé dans ses études dès son plus jeune âge et a déménagé à Port-au-Prince pour poursuivre ses études secondaires au Lycée Toussaint-Louverture. Il est ensuite sorti diplômé de l’École Normale Supérieure et de l’Université d’État d’Haïti.
Il est arrivé au Canada en 1992, pour faire une maîtrise en éducation et un doctorat en littérature haïtienne à l’Université de Montréal. Il a ensuite obtenu un poste de professeur à l’Université de Guelph, à l’École des langues et de littérature.
Au cours de sa carrière à l’Université de Guelph, il a touché beaucoup de personnes par sa générosité, sa gentillesse, sa collégialité et son dévouement. Il en a impressionné encore plus par sa vaste connaissance de la littérature et son amour de la poésie qu’il aimait partager. Admiré de tous, Joubert a inspiré de nombreux étudiants à approfondir leur intérêt pour la littérature. Écrivain infatigable et poète exceptionnel, son héritage lui survivra.
Joubert a traversé la vie avec humilité, grâce et élégance.
Le service aura lieu à Wall-Custance Funeral Home, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, lundi 23 janvier 2023 à 13h30 et l’inhumation suivra à Woodlawn Memorial Park 762 Woolwich St., Guelph. Une réception aura lieu de 15h15 à 17 heures à Cutten Fields, 190 College Ave E, Guelph, ON N1H 6L.
