On Friday, December 30th, Donna Scott (Churcher), loving wife, mother, Nana, Great Nana and dear friend to many passed away at home at the age of 85.
Donna lived an exceptionally full, positive and spectacular life. Born and raised in Guelph, it’s the place Donna met and later married her G.C.V.I. sweetheart and the love of her life Bill. For 61 years the two of them shaped their world into what would be a wonderful life raising their family and giving back to their community.
As a couple they were often a team in their joint community endeavours but on her own Donna branched out creating her own individual world of community outreach and giving. This village of friends and family they developed over the years was nothing less than massive and after Bill’s passing in 2019 Donna’s village only got bigger.
Involved in the education of the youngest of Guelphites in her earlier years, she moved throughout different areas of education from Kindergarten to Special Education and along the way found her Therapeutic Touch and Hospice family whom she adored. Workshops, continued learning and education, volunteering and caring for others became an integral part of Donna’s life and gave her great joy and purpose. She often said “she got more from giving than she gave”, but those she cared for thought otherwise. And while all of her endeavours gave her great joy her greatest joy came from her love for her family and her deep connection to her “village”.
Gentle, kind, soft spoken and loving, with an amazing energy, a great sense of humour and always up for some spontaneous fun, Donna could also be fierce when needed as an outspoken advocate for her family and friends. Small but mighty, she was never afraid to step up or speak up for a family member, friend or stranger in need and more often than not the strangers became friends and her village grew. A village that supported her and carried her through the lonely days after Bill’s passing and the tough times during Covid, she continued to look at life through her rose coloured glasses and her glass was always half full. If it takes a village Donna had that well covered and she left an imprint on all of the hearts and souls she touched.
She will be so very dearly missed by all who loved her and has left unforgettable cherished memories with her loving daughter Johnna Clapperton (Peter), Biviano grandchildren Joel (Nicole), Hannah, Aaron and Sam, Clapperton grandchildren Zachary (Hayley), Jacob (Brianne and great granddaughters Avery and Alice) and Rees Douglass (Joshua and great grandson Rowan) as well as her Scott family including sister-in-laws Yoli (Jim Scott) and Patti (Greg Morrow), and all of her cousins many nieces and nephews. Donna is predeceased by her husband Bill (William C. Scott), son Taylor, daughter Judy, brothers Harold and John and parents Leslie and Agnes Churcher.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday the 20th of January, 2023, at Trinity United Church, 400 Stevenson St. N., Guelph, Ontario. A reception will follow in the church auditorium. Donna loved flowers but always believed it was money spent that could do so much more. In lieu of flowers her family have asked that donations be made to Hospice Wellington or Sick Children’s Hospital.
