It is with the saddest of hearts that we, Clare (n. Garratt) and Dean Shannon announce the death of our dear daughter, Kayleigh Ann Shannon of Holstein in her 20th year. She died suddenly yet peacefully in her sleep at her residence house at the University of Guelph where she was studying Bio-Medical Engineering; she was in her second year in the program. Her goal in life was to make the physical world accessible to all. She wanted to design and build prosthetics. Kayleigh was born June 6th 1997 in Hanover. She attended Egremont School in Holstein where both Clare and Dean had the joy of teaching her. She graduated with honours from Grey Highland Secondary High School in 2015 as an Ontario Scholar. Kayleigh was a member of the Volleyball, Soccer and the Basketball teams at GHSS. But her real passions were skiing and basketball. She trained and raced for both the Kimberley Ski Club and Jozo Weider. Kayleigh played OBA ball for the Orangeville Hawkes and Fergus Celtics. She put 100% into becoming the best person, athlete, artist, student, friend, sister, daughter,…whatever it was. Kayleigh is survived by her parents Dean and Clare from Holstein, her big brother, Thomas the defender. She leaves her maternal grandparents, Ted and Julie Garratt of Tillsonburg, her uncle Greig, her dear Aunt Tanya and caring Uncle Scott, and their boys, her beloved cousins, Jake and Cole. She is also survived by countless friends, who were the pillar of support for her in her absence from home in the country, a place she held very close to her heart. Kayleigh had an infectious laugh and hilarious silliness that was contagious. Her thoughtfulness, warmth and kindness that she shared with all those with whom she came in contact had no bounds. There was no more loyal a person and friend than our Kayleigh. She will be sorrowfully missed by many but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be directed to the Prosthetics Department at West Park Healthcare Centre (www.westpark.org).
