SHANNON, Wayne D.

Posted

Shannon Wayne MM

Of Guelph, passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on Sunday, September 20, 2020, in his 74 year.

Beloved husband of Lynda (nee McMahon).

Loved father of Steve (Melanie), Drew (Anna).

Proud grandfather of Cyrus and Erika.

Dear brother of Jim (Susan) Shannon, Sharon (Bruce) Kaufman, Bruce (Marg) Shannon, Jerry (Susan) Shannon, Jack (Wilma) Shannon, David (Elaine) Shannon, Bonnie (Robert) Koeslag and the late Larry Shannon.

Predeceased by his parents Edward and Norma Shannon.

Wayne will be missed by extended family and friends.

Wayne was creative and a problem solver. He was a builder/carpenter and treated each project like is was his own. Wayne was a gentle soul. He was gentle with all people especially his wife and kids. He always thought the best of people.

Through this long and painful decline he never complained, although he was entitled to. He accepted that he needed a lung transplant with dignity and grace and when it didn’t go as well as we thought, he accepted the limits of his life.

Wayne loved nature, camping, hiking, kayaking, scuba diving, and skiing; especially in our provincial parks. He loved his family and was proud of his children. He had a happy childhood and carried the work ethic he learned on the farm with him his entire life.

The family would like to thank everyone involved at Hospice Wellington and Toronto General Hospital Lung Transplant Unit for their care and compassion through all his treatments. Thank you to the palliative team, all his Guelph doctors, Dr. Chaudry, and his PSW support. He had support from so many.

A private graveside service will be held at Erin Union Cemetery.  Arrangements entrusted to the WALL-CUSTANCE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 519-822-0051 or wallcustance.com – Condolences can be sent to the family via the funeral home website below Wayne’s notice.

Memorial contributions to the Hospice Wellington or Toronto General Hospital Lung Transplant Unit would be appreciated.

A tree will be planted in memory of D. Wayne Shannon in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest.
