Simpson Evelyn MM

After a long and full life, Evelyn Mary Simpson, in her 94th year, died peacefully at her home at the Elliott Community on June 11, 2017.

Evelyn was born in England in 1923. She was a proud “riveter” of the Lancaster aircraft during the Second World War.  Her first husband, Pete Emerson, was a tail gunner in the war and died in action, just three months after they married. After the war ended, Evelyn married Robert (Bob) Simpson, and together they immigrated to Canada with their young sons in 1953.  She lived in Quebec City, St Thomas, Ottawa and Burlington before moving to Guelph in 1997.  She is survived by her son Rob and his wife Donna, and son Alistair and his wife Anna.   Left to remember Nana with fondness, funny stories, and warm memories are granddaughters Christina, Stephanie, and Annie (Cam).

Evelyn’s family is grateful to the nursing, PSW, and dietary staff on the 4th and 3rd floors of Elliott Retirement Home over the last nine years.  Not to mention the heroic efforts of the hair salon staff! So many of these individuals extended themselves to help make these years comfortable and enjoyable.

We will not forget your professional care, sense of humour, warmth, and kindness toward Evelyn, especially in her last days. May we all be so lucky to have such wonderful people in our lives.

A tree will be planted in memory of Evelyn M. Simpson in the Wall-Custance Memorial Forest, University of Guelph Arboretum. Dedication service, Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 2:30 pm.
