SIPPRELL, Dorothy

Posted

sipprell-dorothy-mm1

of Guelph passed away in Mississauga on Thursday, July 27, 2023, in her daughter’s home with family by her side.

She was the dear daughter of Mabel Ryan (deceased) and Hance Ryan (deceased), loving wife of Lorne Sipprell (deceased), loving mother of Heather and Paul (deceased), and loving sister to Ken (deceased) and sister-in-law to Doris, and loving mother-in-law to Dianne and grandmother to Krista and Molly.

Born Dorothy Isabel Ryan on April 6, 1932, in Springhill, Nova Scotia. She married Lorne Prosser Sipprell of New Brunswick on her parents’ family farm in Windham Hill, Nova Scotia on July 4, 1952.

Dorothy and Lorne began their married life in Toronto and then raised their family in Brampton before moving to Guelph in January, 1997.

Dorothy was selfless, kind, and caring. She enjoyed her home and delighted in family life. She liked cooking and baking (trying recipes clipped out of magazines, as well as making old family favourites) and entertaining family and a large circle of friends -- always a great hostess with ‘maritime’ hospitality. Throughout her home there were symbols and objects of her and her husband’s maritime roots—from sail boats and braided rugs to driftwood.

She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Guelph, and when she lived in Brampton, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church on Wellington Street.

Dorothy was a creative person with many hobbies, which included sewing, taking pictures, cross-stitch, and a variety of crafts. She liked reading (often several books at once) and going to plays.

She took great pleasure in travelling throughout North America, mostly on road trips and often with a camping trailer. She also toured the Caribbean and ventured to Ireland!

Dorothy will be greatly missed by family and friends. We will always hear her ringing laughter.

Cremation has taken place and Dorothy will be buried beside her beloved husband in September at Farnham Cemetery where there will be a graveside service.
