May 12, 1925 – December 2, 2021

Sheila (Donovan) Smydo passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the age of 96, with her beloved husband of 74 years, Stanley Smydo, holding her hand at St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge, Ontario.

Sheila was the Dear Mother of Sharen Workman (Bob), Cecilia Gilbert (Wayne), Dave Smydo (Jill), and Christine Oldridge (Dan), and proud Grandmother of Chris Workman (Jean), Dan Workman (Amy), Terri Giberson (Eric), Sean Gilbert (Lisa), Lance Gilbert (Mylena), Steve Smydo (Laurie), Derek Smydo (Amberlea), Shannon Smydo, and Jason Fitzpatrick (Nicole).  Sheila was delighted with her 19 Great-Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Sheila is survived by one of her 11 siblings:  Peter Donovan (Vivien) and two of Stan’s 4 siblings:  Ed Smydo (Terry) and Helen Mooney.  Many nieces, nephews & cousins remember her affectionately.

Sheila has a history of volunteer work; starting with being a Brownie leader when she was a young mother; helping at Lapointe-Fisher Nursing Home and funeral lunches at St. Joseph’s Parish.  She was a long-time blood donor and an active CWL member for many years.  

Sheila will be fondly remembered for her deep faith, beautiful smile, laugh, and caring nature.

We would like to acknowledge the wonderful staff at St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge, for their compassionate care of Sheila over the last year and a half.

Cremation has taken place.  A private family Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.  The Mass will be live streamed through St. Joseph’s Catholic Church website on Saturday, December 11, 2021 @ 10:00 a.m.
