Stanley Smydo passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at the age of 95, with family by his side at St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge, Ontario.

Proud Grandfather of Chris Workman (Jean), Dan Workman (Amy), Terri Giberson (Eric), Sean Gilbert (Lisa), Lance Gilbert (Mylena), Steve Smydo (Laurie), Derek Smydo (Amberlea), Shannon Smydo and Jason Fitzpatrick (Nicole).

Stan was delighted with his 19 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Stan is survived by two siblings:  Ed Smydo (Terry) and Helen Mooney (Gord d.1978).  Predeceased by his sister Mary Matusinec (Stan).  He is also survived by brother-in-law Peter Donovan (Vivien).  Many nieces and nephews have fond memories of him.  Stan is also survived by several Fronchak cousins and he never missed the annual Fronchak-Smydo reunion.

We would like to acknowledge the amazing staff at St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge, for their compassionate care of “Stan the man” over the last 16 months.

Stan was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish for over 45 years and served as an usher at the 10:15 a.m. Mass for many years.

Stan worked for 56 years, starting at the age of 19 and retiring at the age of 75.  In his prime, he was superintendent on the building of many concrete & steel bridges all over Ontario and Manitoba, the last one being the high-level bridge over the Madawaska River in Burnstown in 1975.

Cremation has taken place.  A private family Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Guelph, Ontario. The Mass will be live streamed through St. Joseph’s Catholic Church website on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.
