It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the family shares of the passing of Robert Arthur Stockford on May 22, 2024.  Beloved and devoted husband of 59 years to Sandra Stockford (Koebel).  Proud and loving father to Christa (Alex) Tolledi and Darrick (Pam) Stockford.  Devoted and incredibly proud Grandpa (“Pa”) to Briar (Damian) and Devan MacDonald and Carson and Brooklyn Stockford.  He is predeceased by his parents Rosanna and John Stockford, and his sisters Ruth Ann O’Loan and Elizabeth Stockford-Cole.

Robert was born on June 15, 1944, in Guelph, Ontario and spent his life as a Guelphite.  In his early years he was a Cadet, played local hockey and spent lots of time learning a variety of handyman skills that he would later pass on to his son.  He bought and renovated a wonderful home for his wife and together they raised and cared for their family for almost 60 years.  He was known to many as either “Bob” or “Rob” and had the biggest heart…always looking to evoke a smile or help out others wherever he could.  It was common to find him blowing out snow for the neighbours or getting a chuckle from a waiter in a restaurant with his witty sense of humour.   He always looked to bring some humour to any situation or to anyone in his path…those chuckles will be missed terribly by all who knew and loved him.  Robert was a natural caretaker taking much pride in supporting his family in many ways…what really stands out is the love and care that always went into everything he touched …many renovations and projects happened simply because of his help and know-how.   He had such integrity and was a source of aid or wisdom to whoever needed him, particularly stepping up over the years as a devoted son-in law to his in-laws Carl and Erma Koebel.  His children and grandchildren have a shining example to follow, and the sense of loss is profound.

Robert had a quick way of solving problems and could really get things done… which he put into practice for over 30 years at Guelph Tool and Die (Guelph Manufacturing).  He played his part watching the company grow over the years from the original handful of employees to the large multi-plant operation it had become when he retired.  He also loved being outside and like to garden, hunt and fish, race pigeons and most recently had re-engaged with a love of golf,  having joined a league at Mary Hill Golf Course.  He particularly loved being able to share his re-ignited passion with his family as he was often found taking his grandson out for a round on the greens.  His love for his family was evident, as he was always available to spent time and he made each of us a priority in so many little ways.  We are so thankful he was our husband, dad, grandpa...We could not have asked for more and hold onto so many cherished memories.

Robert is survived by many nieces, nephews, friends, and family members who will remember him fondly.  He is resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Dublin Chapel, 252 Dublin Street North, Guelph (519-822-4731). To honour his wishes the family will not be receiving guests and will be holding a simple private family service.  Anyone who would like to share comments, memories or expressions of sympathy are welcome to do so at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.

Donations made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family. Donations can be made in person at the funeral home (cash and cheque accepted) or online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
